Ok, I came back over a week ago from 13 talks in 12 days in 5 of the largest 6 cities in Korea and then 2 talks right after it in Canada or 15 talks in 15 days. Was tanked at the end but had a lot of fun. I am still walking around in a daze on Korean time. It is hard to readjust my internal clock.
I saw dozens of former students and visiting scholars when in Korea. This was my fourth trip to Korea. I have close to 80 contacts there now so I expect to go back within the year. Many of my Korean friends took me around to palaces, museums, parks, mountain tops, cultural centers, and shopping districts. A boat ride down the Han River was enjoyable as was a ride on the bullet train from Daejeon to Daegu and then the following day from Dague back to Seoul. My hotel in Seoul (the President Hotel) was smack downtown which was a great launching off point to other places.
The last night I even sang karaoke in a Korean jazz pub with my friend Dr. Hongyul Han from Hanyang University. Dr. Han's son, Harry, goes to Indiana University is best friends with my son Alex (who is also Korean). Unfortunately, I picked Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody for my second song. Dr. Han helped out. I nearly bombed though Hongyul did fine. The applause we got were welcome. The bottle of whiskey Dr. Han bought tasted quite good after that awful performance. Smile. There are too many people to thank here for the great time I had. Indiana University is having a huge alumni event in Seoul next week with the IU president, all the IU deans, and over 300 IU alumni now back in Korea.
An hour after getting home from the Korea-Canada trip, I got a call from Mike Prokopeak, the editorial director for Chief Learning Officer magazine. He interviewed me about open educational resources and their potential impact in the corporate world.
